The Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies (BACS) at Cape Breton University is a highly flexible program that offers students opportunities for academic specialization, applied learning, and focused study across diverse areas, while empowering them to work directly with their communities to identify and address pressing issues. Within this framework, the Political Science program has earned a strong reputation for innovation, hard work, and commitment to excellence. Firmly rooted in the liberal arts and social sciences, it equips students with analytical tools and critical thinking skills to make constructive contributions to society. Political scientists are called upon to examine and challenge the groups, systems, and institutions that perpetuate injustice, and at CBU students engage with issues that affect real communities ranging from global challenges like climate change to local concerns such as social and economic development. Approachable faculty bring expertise in public administration, governance, community economic development, social justice, environmental policy, and democracy, offering students both academic insight and practical experience.
