Philosophy
is a disciplined reflection on the human condition. It can be an analysis and
criticism of ideas and statements, or an attempt to synthesize all experience
and knowledge, or an exploration of the meaning of life and how best to live
it. Critical thinking is developed while examining peoples' responses to
fundamental questions. This degree prepares students for transfer to the CSU
system for further study in philosophy. Analyze social science
concepts and theories. Evaluate diverse
viewpoints related to the human experience. Produce
evidence-based arguments
Career Path
Philosophy
cultivates general purpose “transferable” work skills. Its emphasis on
reasoning and argumentation fosters critical thinking and communication skills
applicable to a wide range of professional contexts. Professions that are of
particular relevance to philosophy include law, business, government, social
work, and health management.
