About This Programme

The Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies (BACS) at Cape Breton University is a highly flexible program that offers opportunities for academic specialization, applied learning, and focused study across diverse areas, while empowering students to work directly with their communities to identify and address pressing issues. Within this framework, the Philosophy program provides a customized compass for navigating the intellectual, ethical, and emotional complexities of life, fostering personal, social, and professional growth through exceptional training in logical reasoning. In today’s digital age, philosophical expertise is vital for untangling complex ethical and legal concepts such as privacy, self identity, and intellectual property, and at CBU students take a case study approach to examine challenges in law, business, and society that cannot be solved by simply applying familiar principles. Guided by approachable faculty, students explore profound questions about the limits of bioengineering, the scope of science, the roles of love, art, and achievement in shaping meaning, and the distinction between genuine and artificial experiences in an increasingly virtual world.
