Lane’s Dental Hygiene program will prepare you for state licensure throughout the United States and for a rewarding career in a high demand field. After you complete prerequisite classes and get accepted into the Lane’s Dental Hygiene program, you learn the training and skills to be ready for employment in a wide-variety of dental care settings, incorporating lecture with hands-on lab and clinical experiences, as well as preparation for national and state board exams. What you'll learn; Oral Biology, Roentgenology and Oral Pathology, Infection Control and Safety, Dental Anatomy and Histology, Periodontology, Community Dental Health, Pharmacology and Local Anesthesia, Restorative Functions, Expanded Practice Functions. In your second year of the program, you’ll begin clinical courses and learn how to:  student will Conduct initial dental assessment exams. Thoroughly review patient health history, contraindications for care and other health concerns. Conduct intra/extraoral exam, periodontal evaluation and develop treatment plans for patient dental needs. Remove plaque and tartar from teeth with hand and ultrasonic instrumentation techniques. Apply fluoride and sealants to prevent dental decay. Treat gingivitis and periodontitis and provide instructions for perio-maintenance. Classify periodontal disease and administer sonic and hand scaling techniques. Utilize diagnostic and panoramic x-rays and digital imaging. Take dental impressions. Graduates will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. Graduation from this two-year program makes you eligible for state licensure throughout the United States.

English Language Requirement

Lane Community College will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
