The Associate of Arts Degree in Sociology is a recognized two-year academic credential program. The aims of this program are to provide students with an entry point into a Bachelor of Arts degree program, to create greater ease in transferring credits to other post-secondary institutions, and prepare them with academic knowledge and skills applicable to various work contexts. Students are exposed to an overview of central topics in sociology, fundamental sociological theories and concepts, studies in Canadian society and specialized subject areas in sociology. The Sociology program at Kwantlen is the only program of this kind in BC that involves a practicum component, which provides students with the opportunity to volunteer in a local or global context in a community-based setting, make employment contacts, and apply knowledge students have learned in class in the field. Students will develop a broad understanding of the social, cultural, economic, and political relationships between local, regional, and global communities, which are important and desired qualifications sought by prospective employers in the public, private and non-profit organizations. Any student can take our courses as Arts electives, whether they're getting a Sociology degree or a major in something else, or haven't figured that out yet.

Many students who major in sociology go on to take up careers in the areas of community affairs and social work, government, policy, international development, law and criminal justice, teaching and education, business and communications, human resources, and even health. Kwantlen Polytechnic University accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, evidence of English study within a 12 year education system where English is designated as the primary and official language and the principal language of instruction. For applicants who do not yet meet the English language requirement, there are two pathways to achieve the necessary level:
Pre sessional English Programme; Students may successfully complete a preparatory English programme offered by the university before beginning their academic course. Recognized English Proficiency Tests; Students may submit one of the following minimum scores prior to the start of their program: IELTS: 6.5 overall band score (or equivalent), TOEFL or PTE: Score of 60, Duolingo English Test: Score of 120.
