Welcome to the Associate of Arts Degree (History) - Transfer

An Associate in Arts in History for Transfer (AA-T) from Skyline College is intended for students who are interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in History, or similar major. History degrees are often preparation for careers in education, law or the Foreign Service. Additionally, this degree develops key critical thinking skills and enhances the student's ability to participate fully and meaningfully as a citizen in a democracy. Apply historical theories, methods, and concepts to examine systems of social stratification, power, and privileges arising from factors such as social class, gender, and race within individual, local, state, national, and global contexts. Evaluate the contributions of various individuals and/or groups throughout history as agents of social change. Understand and apply historical knowledge as a critical thinking tool that informs responsible citizenry. Apply a historical perspective to analyze and interpret historical patterns to improve one’s state of humanity.

Career Path

Majoring in history is an excellent foundation for students interested in education, the legal professions, community activism, library and archival studies, international relations, journalism, public relations, and political service. Students wishing to become business executives, administrators, and public servants gain immensely from the methodological skills of the historian. Historians gather, synthesize, analyze, and interpret evidence; they present their conclusions to a general audience in a lucid and logical manner.
