Welcome to the Associate of Arts Degree (Filmmaking)

The AA degree offers an overview of key film production skills (visual storytelling, directing, producing, production design, editing, and cinematography) and an introduction to the creative world of entertainment. The AA prepares students for a seamless transition into the BFA program.
Students will develop their voice as storytellers and shape their future in film, television, and entertainment. Following College of the Cnayons signature approach, students learn-by-doing through a strict regimen of lectures, seminars, and total immersion workshops.
Throughout the program, students build skills in directing, cinematography, editing, writing, and producing, creating a variety of short films and original video content. The  film program  is an excellent fit for individuals who want to pursue their interests in film, entertainment, and media.

Admission Requirements

English Language Requirement

College of the Canyons will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.
If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
