Welcome to the BSc. Education -Early Childhood Special Education

The Exceptional Child program in early education special education prepares you to work with students with exceptional learning needs. These children need teachers with specialized skill sets. You’ll have multiple field-based courses where you will work in classrooms with infants/toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children. The Exceptional Child Ed program prepares students for the classroom through coursework on campus and fieldwork within schools. In addition, you’ll be prepared to integrate technology into your classroom as a beginning teacher. Be prepared and certified to teach and work with students with exceptional learning needs ages birth-3rd grade. Add certification in Elementary Education (grades 1-6). Gain leadership skills in numerous student organizations. As an exceptional child: early childhood special education major, you’ll learn to meet the rigor of teacher education in a supportive environment with faculty who have extensive classroom experience themselves. Teaching special and exceptional learners also means advocating for the students and their particular needs. You’ll have the opportunity to work with other educators, parents, and health professionals to find resources that meet the educational needs of these unique students.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
