Welcome to the BSc. Biology Education

A biology education degree prepares highly qualified teachers of biology once all degree requirements and assessments are passed. Students have an exceptional program of professional preparation including field experiences, theory, and pedagogy courses. The curriculum is well-rounded to help you develop a strong foundation of biological knowledge. Once you are certified, you can add other areas of science by passing the Missouri Content Assessment exams. The Department of biology, is committed to delivering high-quality, research-informed teaching in a range of biology and life science fields alongside a developing Life Sciences research portfolio.  Staff have expertise in a range of disciplines which will support your scientific development and prepare you for professional practice as a science educator. Learn the latest techniques for engaging students while teaching the sciences. Immerse yourself in coursework to increase your knowledge of biology. Gain experience integrating technology into your teaching methods. Focus on teaching techniques, so that you’re preparing all your students to succeed.

Career Path

Graduates will have developed the skills required to teach biology in secondary schools. Graduates will also have developed skills applicable to creating, setting up and demonstrating experiments commonly carried out in secondary school bioscience labs. A Bachelor in Biology Education could play roles as: Biology Educator, Environmental Consultant, Biology Researcher, Laboratory Manager, Entrepreneur.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
