BSc. Nutrition and Food Science - Family and Consumer Sciences Community Education

The Family and Consumer Sciences Community Education Concentration in the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science is offered through the College of Behavioral and Health Science at MTSU. The Family and Consumer Sciences Community Education concentration is designed for students interested in working as a Family and Consumer Sciences or 4-H agent with a county extension office and they should select this concentration. Currently, there is a national need for FCS agents in most states in the US. Selecting this Family and Consumer Sciences Community program is right for you if you are: Patient, nurturing, creative, organized, and self-motivated. Enjoy flexibility and variety in your work. Enjoy helping youth and adults develop essential skills to live and work successfully.

Career Path

The major in Nutrition and Food Science offers preparation for careers in community nutrition services; county, state, and federal health departments; food processing; food marketing; and quality control. Examples include: Catering manager, Extension Agent, Food researcher, Food-service manager (schools, hospitals, residential care facilities, prisons, etc, Production manager, Public nutrition educator, Purchasing manager, Quality assurance specialist, Restaurant manager and/or owner, Salesm representative, School nutrition director.
