BSc. Nutrition and Food Science - Family and Consumer Sciences Secondary Education

The NFS Family and Consumer Sciences Secondary Education concentration prepares students to graduate with a Tennessee Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) teacher license at the secondary level. Nationwide, there is a shortage of FCS teachers, so jobs are plentiful. Students in this concentration must complete the Ready2Teach Secondary Education Minor, which begins with a formal application for admission to the Teacher Education Program described in the Information link. Graduates of the 120-credit hour BS degree are prepared to teach middle school Teen Living or in the high school Career Pathways areas such as Nutrition and Dietetics, Human and Social Services, Teaching as a Profession, or Culinary Arts. Career Path

The major in Nutrition and Food Science offers preparation for careers in community nutrition services; county, state, and federal health departments; food processing; food marketing; and quality control. Examples include: Catering manager, Extension Agent, Food researcher, Food-service manager (schools, hospitals, residential care facilities, prisons, etc, Production manager, Public nutrition educator, Purchasing manager, Quality assurance specialist, Restaurant manager and/or owner, Salesm representative, School nutrition director.

English Language Requirement

Middle Tennessee State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit
