The study of organizational
communication focuses on the internal dynamics and human interactions within
various organizational settings. Students in organizational communication
complete courses designed to develop interpersonal communication skills, problem
solving and critical thinking, informative and persuasive message construction
for both public speaking and small group interactions, and essential
communication competencies for effective leadership in organizations.
Organizational Communication focuses on the essential communication skills
necessary to work with others in professional settings which include verbal
communication, nonverbal communication, listening, emotional
awareness/intelligence, and context assessment. Organizational Communication majors
develop a set of necessary and flexible skills that make them “most likely to
succeed” in various workplace settings. Aside from learning communication's
constitutive role in organizing, organizational communication students develop
understandings and competencies in ethical collaboration and leadership
abilities for a variety of contemporary contexts, including ways communication
processes sustain and change organizations' relational, community, and cultural
environments. Students in this program also developed applied understandings
they need to coordinate and manage the work of a variety of organizations.
