Welcome to the B Sc. Middle School Science

The Middle School Science, grades 6-8 concentration prepares students to enter the teaching profession and other related careers. The middle school education curriculum is designed to provide the necessary foundation of teaching skills, coupled with the broad knowledge of the sciences, as well as content in reading, writing, math, and history. Students in licensure programs also engage in extensive clinical experiences in public schools for hands-on training, professional collaboration, and classroom management. Our high-quality Department of STEM Education program thoroughly prepares secondary education teacher leaders for middle school and high school science teaching in the concentration areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science and Middle Grades Science. To develop the professional qualities and academic background needed to teach science to all student levels in the grade for which the teacher is certified.To develop a general knowledge foundation upon which specialized professional knowledge is built, and upon which a well-rounded university education is the base.

Career Path

As a graduate of this course you will be able to work as a teacher or teaching assistant in a primary school, or move into nursery education. We will provide you with careers advice throughout the course, and can also give support when preparing for interviews.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
